Diving for Pearls Concert – June 20th at The Grand Ole Opry

Lorraine & The Borderlands are looking forward to playing at The Grand Ole Opry on June 20th in support of Diving for Pearls a multi-media project coordinated by Govan & Craigton Integration Network. The Concert is part of Refugee Week and they will be part of the line-up along with the wonderful Alasdair Roberts & Friends, The Carlton Jug Band, Big Hogg and the Diving for Pearls songwriting group.

Inspired by Clive Langer and Elvis Costello’s song Shipbuilding, it will explore the cultural, social and economic impact of the shipbuilding industry on the population of Govan by focusing on and bringing together people with migrant histories: from the descendants of Highland and Irish settlers to the more recent arrivals from Europe, and refugees from around the world.

Please Welcome Mat Clements to the Borderlands

We are very happy to announce that the fabulous Mat Clements of Orkestra del Sol fame has joined the band. Mat joined Lorraine & the Borderlands in the run up to their album launch and his fantastic percussion is a wonderful fit to the band. For over 6 years Mat has been playing with Orkestra del Sol who have charmed audiences all over Europe and Australia as well as at festivals in India, and China. Orkestra del Sol are well renowned for their bombastic brass, good-time honkstep and tongue-in-cheek humour. The Edinburgh-based 9-piece kicked off 2011 with a 23-show tour of Australia, including a high profile season at Sydney International Art Festival. Check out one of their great videos below….
